Mr. Independent

He is now crawling and pulling himself up so the last couple of days have been so much fun child proofing our house....

Happy New Year !

Here is a list of all my "New" New Year's Resolution...

1) Not to be so critical of the decisions that people make. I haven't walked in their shoes so I shouldn't decide what pair I think they should wear.

2) Be content.

3) Shop Smart - which to most people that know me assume that I do, but trust me I have my weaknesses.

4) Be patient with people.

5) To love my husband more than I did last year.

6) To be a kick butt mom

7) To let my friends & family know that I love and appreciate them.

8) To accept situations for what they are.

9) To not take life so serious.

Weekend Getaway

So, we had a very extended and busy holiday season... to recap:
Christmas Eve: dinner with Tammy's parents and a variety of family friends.
Christmas: Present opening at home, then back to Tammy's parent's for another dinner.
Day after Christmas: thorough cleaning of our house in preparation for my family to come over for the full Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings.
Two days after: Dalton Christmas dinner part 1, with Harry & David ham, crystal and china and all of the trimmings, then presents, and games until midnight.
Three days after: Dalton Christmas dinner part 2, okay, we ordered out for this one I think, then more presents, then more games into the late evening.
Five days after: Diekmann Christmas and presents.
Six days after: Kid friendly New Years Eve party with Marlow and David Barton
11 days after: Another Christmas dinner with Tammy's parents and some close Diekmann family friends, with a Cajun turkey from the Honey Baked Ham store, and all of the trimmings.
17 days after: Holiday followup dinner with my godparents, the Vojvodas.

So, having done 9 different parties in less than a month, we were worn out, and decided it was time for a quick getaway weekend. We wanted to keep it simple, and close by, so Tammy picked out Tan-Tar-A Resort at Osage Beach at the Lake of the Ozarks. It was only a 2 hour drive from home, with a stop to drop Gideon with Tammy's parents for the night, just the right distance for an overnight trip.

The room was big, and on the sixth floor, with a beautiful view of the lake. After spending some time enjoying the view, we dropped by the outlet mall to pick up some boots for me, some clothes for Gideon, and some purse stuff for Tammy, then headed back to the hotel for a couples massage. I'd never had professional massage before, so this was totally new to me, but it turned out to be very relaxing. For dinner we headed to J.B. Hooks for a late but extraordinarily good steak and seafood dinner. I'd put it up there as the second or third best steak I've ever had, but I think the twice baked potato outdid the steak somehow. I'm not sure what they put in the potato, but it was really good. The staff was great, the view was nice (albeit dark, it being 10pm), and we had a great time. In the morning, we drove out and checked out Bagnell Dam, but apparently there's not much to do there during the off season, so we walked out and looked over it, then jumped in the car and headed back to get Gideon and go home.

So, that's about all there was to it, but it was a perfect little weekend getaway to recharge our batteries. I think little chances like this, to have moments for just the two of us, are part of what makes us such a strong couple.

Happy 7 Months Old!! Little one.

We have succeeded being parents for 7 months now and here is the progress he has made.

1) He is now our little GI Joe, he can crawl across a room all by himself.
2) He can sit up and play all by himself.
3) He now sleeps in his own bedrooom and I even took the mini crib out of our room so I don't have a relapse.
4) He smiles when he is being talked too.
5) Can give you Five's
6) Moved to level 2 foods.
7) And the best ...drum roll please !!! He says Mommmm and Dadadadadada

I think we have done pretty well so far being parents. He adores us as much as we adore him.

Happy New Year 2009
